June 1, 2020 – New name

Image
As my humans work a lot on their software I can nap a lot. They go for a walk with Forrest and me a couple of times a day. Sometimes short walks and sometimes long ones. Forrest fell in love with Tina, a Yorkshire terrier lady. I know, she is way too small for him but what can you do about falling in love? So every time we walk past her house he is excited and looking for her everywhere. If she is outside she barks at him and tells him to stay away. Poor Forrest he is frustrated. On our walks we pass a pony, goats and a lot of cows. Forrest has never seen any of these animals before and he was very brave when he first saw them. It was still very cold in Lapland when we left and Forrest and I still have winter fur. Now with the warmer weather we change our fur and loose a lot of hair. My mistress has a special tool to get rid of the old hair and when we go for a walk she takes it with her to comb our hair. I am used to it and although I don’t like it too much know that I feel way better

May 21, 2020 – Back in Germany

We had a good and quiet night on the ferry. Forrest had to go to the bathroom at about 5 am and my mistress was able to watch a beautiful sunrise. I preferred to stay in the cabin and sleep. When finally the alarm woke up my humans they had breakfast, packed our gear and at around 9 am we arrived in Kiel. The owner of the AirBnB offered to pick us up in Kiel and my humans were happy with that as we did not have to take go to Kiel main station somehow, take the train to Burg (Dithmarschen) and walk to the apartment. Again it was great to have the ramps from the ferry into the terminal and not to take a shuttle bus and walk stairs. Forrest was very excited and he couldn’t wait to find out what was happening next. When he gets excited he wines and jumps. He is a really good jumper – he jumps over my human’s head from a standing position. His dad, Snowfox, is a great jumper too. Michael, our host, was very friendly and the humans talked a lot while Forrest and I looked out of the windows.

May 20, 2020 – Gothenburg and why is there a statue of a pig

Image
This was a very, very long journey but finally we made it to Gothenburg. My humans were tired, as they couldn’t sleep on the train.   The ferry to Kiel would be leaving in the evening so we had to spend a couple of hours in Gothenburg. My humans told me that in Germany and a lot of other countries had to wear masks that cover mouth and nose due to that Corona virus and that they have to keep distance to each other. Here in Gothenburg you couldn’t experience anything like that. On the train nobody had worn a mask. Sweden obviously handled that differently. They also told me that we left to Germany so quickly because they reopened the borders and it was possible to travel to Germany and not have to go into quarantine for 2 weeks. My master went to look for a place where they could store the luggage so that we could walk around and visit Gothenburg. Quickly he found the place and while he was in the elevator with the luggage my mistress, Forrest and I took the stairs. The stairs were buil

May 19, 2020 – A whole new world for Forrest

Image
My humans were still busy packing all our stuff and doing last minute things on the farm. Forrest and I had to stay in the kennel. In the afternoon the owners of the Husky farm took us all to the train station. On the way reindeers crossed the street. I have never seen reindeers but Forrest told me what these animals are. After about an hour in the car we arrived in Ålvsbyn where we would board the train to Gothenburg. As we arrived early we had to wait and Forrest and I had a short nap on our blankets. A lot of people waited on the platform for the train. Forrest had never seen a train before in his entire (well, quite short) life. He was a little nervous but when he saw that I was chilled he calmed down.  My humans, Forrest and I boarded the train, stored the luggage and the humans went to their seats. A little later my master asked the conductor if we could change seats to the one with the table. The entire coach was empty but in times of that virus, Covid-19 they call it; you hav

May 18, 2020 - Packing

Image
Today my mistress started packing the suitcases. I think I missed something, my humans didn't talk about leaving. I heard them talking about that Corona thing and that they would need to quarantine when they got back to Germany. And now they want to go back. So I listened a little more to what they were talking about. Looks like we are taking the train tomorrow and go on the ferry the next day. We will not go back to Frankfurt but to a small apartment in Schleswig-Holstein. My humans want to work on the software without distraction. I wonder how Forrest will react when he realizes we are leaving, when he sees a train or a ferry? He must be scared. I better stay close to him to take care of him. This time we are taking a different route. Instead of going to Trelleborg and take the ferry to Rostock we will go to Gothenburg and take the ferry to Kiel. This way we have a longer trip on the ferry and can sleep longer.

May 3, 2020 - Sweden is different

It’s the beginning of May and there is still snow outside and it's cold.the humans still wear winter jackets. And it still snows sometimes. And in the night it doesn't get dark. Although I love snow I think it's about time to have spring and warmer temperatures. On the other hand, that would mean the mosquitos come out and just like in Canada they do have a lot of mosquitos here. It is weird when it doesn't get dark in the night. I mean really dark, so dark that humans can't see without a light and where you could see northern lights. By the way, did I tell you I saw northern lights? They are so beautiful! Green lights with a little bit of red and yellow moving on the dark sky. It was very peaceful and my humans loved it too. Now with the sun shining in the middle of the night you can't see any northern lights. Instead you hear the birds singing. The Sami gather the reindeers to bring them up the mountains. The Sami are the Indigenous people that live

April 19, 2020 -Poor Forrest

Forrest and I get along very good. During the day we both nap on the bed, wait in the kennel for the humans to come back to the camper or play outside in the snow. The humans go for walks with us and train Forrest to go on the leash and follow commands. It's easier for him because I show him how to do it. Today Forrest had to go to the vet to get his vaccines. I couldn't come along but they told me everything about it. Forrest hadn't been in a car too many times and he loved looking out the window. When they arrived at the vet they had to wait a little bit. Forrest was scared, this was an unusual situation for him. The vet is a very nice woman from Germany. When she wanted to pet Forrest he was very shy. My humans took him to the examination room where he got his shots. Afterwards she wanted to give him a treat. Normally he Forrest gets a treat he can't wait and wants to have it immediately. Now he crawled over to the vet, very carefully. The doctor told my humans
