December 23, 2018 – Why would you want to shoot the wolves?
My mistress told my master today that she read an article in a newspaper that they have a problem with wolves in Austria and Germany. The officials want to allow shooting wolves in Austria that come too close to humans.
The wolves are back in Europe, I know that much. And it looks like they kill sheep and other farm animals. Hey, they are wolves and this is the easiest way to get food. That is easier to hunt a deer or a boar. But this does not mean they would attach humans.
I just don’t get it. Humans are responsible that the wolves disappeared in Western Europe. Now the wolves come back and the humans want to kill them. This is just not right. They are part of the nature, part of the original habitat. Why shouldn’t they live there among the other animals and the humans? The wolf is good for the environment, that’s a fact. Ever heard about that project in Yellowstone National Park, what happened after the wolves came back? The biological balance came back into the park. The same thing could happen in Europe.
Where I have been in the last couple of years, Canada and the USA, there are plenty of wolves and coyotes. In Nevada almost all the coyotes are a mixture between wolf and coyote. The humans don’t have a problem with wolves or coyotes, they just accept them. The wolf has a natural fear of humans. Well, unless they get fed by humans and when the food stops or is not enough they start demanding it by attacking the humans that they meet. Hey humans – leave the wolves alone. Let them life their life and don’t interfere by feeding them or shooting them. There is no proof that a wolf attacked or killed a human being in Europe. The wolves were accused of that, but nothing ever happened.
The farmers get compensated for the animals they loose by a wolf. And there are ways to protect the farm animals from the wolves. Lamas are a big help with that.
Sorry, I can get very angry when I hear that. They say if the wolf comes closer than 50m it can be shot. How is the wolf supposed to know that and does the humans carry a measurement tape with them all the time to check if the wolf is closer than 50m? Who guarantees that they won’t be shot when they are further away? I will not take long and the humans will wipe out all the wolves in Western Europe.
Canada and the USA proof that it is possible to live with them and other countries probably too.
I think the reason that people are so scared of wolves is the old fairy tales. Fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, The Wolf and The Seven Young Goats und Peter and the Wolf. Why would you teach you kids something like that? The wolf is a very social animal. If you look closer on their behavior you can see that they care about sick and old members of the pack. If a member of the pack can’t hunt the others will provide it with food.
My mistress read a book about wolves called “Wolfskuesse (Wolf kisses)” by Elli H. Radinger. It’s about a German woman that studied wolves for many years and worked in Yellowstone National Park to study them. People need to educate themselves more about wolves.
Please dear humans, study wolves, learn how they behave and stop being afraid of them and most important, don’t kill them!
