September 15, 2018 – Hermi and her dream

Joyce told my humans and me a lot about Hermi, a friend of hers. Hermi’s right name is Hermine and she originally is from Austria.
Finally we were about to visit Hermi in her little house.

When we arrived at Hermi’s house she came out to greet us. She talked in German to my humans and me. Her German is just perfect, even after living in Canada for more than 60 years. She is such a nice and gentle person. I liked her from the moment I saw her.

She told the story about her house, you have to hear that, it’s amazing. After Hermi migrated to Canada with her late husband they lived in an apartment in Toronto (as far as I remember). They wanted to have a cottage in the country to spend the weekends and holidays. So they contacted a realtor to show them some nice cottages. Meanwhile Hermi had a dream for three nights. In her dream she saw an old cottage, greyish with a crooked driveway, red and white checked curtains and some more details. Her dream was very detailed.
So one day her husband and her were looking at some cottages with their realtor and they just weren’t what they were looking for. It started raining again and it was muddy and so they went into a café for a nice cup of coffee and started talking. While they were talking the realtor told them that he was a professor for psychology and dream interpretation. That couldn’t be coincidence. Hermi said to him, well I will give you a dream and you tell me what you think of it. So she told him about her dream about the cottage. Well, he didn’t have to think long; he knew which cottage that might be. So he took Hermi and her husband to the cottage. It was very muddy and the realtor and Hermi’s husband waited in the car while Hermi walked up the driveway. There was a broken barn on one side of the driveway. When she came to the “house” it was in a very bad shape. But that was what she saw in her dreams just not in that bad shape. So she shouted to her husband and the realtor “I found it!” When they approached they were a little shocked due to the shape of the house. There was a barn on the left and the house on the right. Hermi went into the house to see how it looked inside and stumbled over something. It was dark in the house and she couldn’t see what it was right away so they got a flashlight. When they turned on the flashlight they found out that Hermi stumbled over an old cow that was resting in the house. The house had been empty for more than 50 years.
Hermi fell in love with the house and she and her husband Ken decided to buy the cottage. The realtor suggested that they just should tear it down and build a new house but they decided to keep the base of the house like all the old beams and doors.
From the outside now it looks like almost every other house in Canada but inside it is very beautiful. They build a fireplace in the living room out of some of the stones of the broken barn on the driveway. It is so beautiful, it’s a pity you can’t see it.
Hermi loves to sew and she taught children how to sow. She makes stunning quilts, shirts and way more. She showed us the entire house and my humans were speechless.
The humans had some tea and cake outside. I don’t know what it is with these humans and their food; they just don’t give me some of that food.
They talked and talked and I wanted to play with Hermi’s cat but that cat was scared of me. As soon as she saw me she climbed the tree and there she sat waiting for us to leave.

Hermi talked in German and in English, she even started talking to Joyce in German and Joyce couldn’t understand a word. It was fun to listen to her and her stories.

There were a lot of wasps flying around and Hermi had to catch one of them, as it was really annoying. In the back yard is a little pond with toads in it and Hermi decided to feed the wasp to one of the toads. The wasp was knocked out and Hermi tried to put it on a little stick to feed it to the toad. The toads know that there is food on the stick and they eat it. They are tame toads. Have you ever heard about that?

After about two hours we left Hermi. She invited us to come and visit her often while Joyce is gone.
Thank you Hermi for that amazing afternoon. It was a pleasure meeting you and I hope my humans will visit you often. Well, I am sure they will, as they liked Hermi a lot.
